Mary was born on a farm near Leona, Kansas, but moved to Texas in her teen years. As a public school teacher she received master degrees from Sam Houston State and the University of Houston. She and her husband raised three children and now have grandchildren, who are the light of their lives. She remains intensely interested in women's issues both in the past and in the present.
