Malignant mesothelioma is a very rare form of cancer occurring in the sac lining of the chest (pleural mesothelioma) or abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma), or the lining of the heart (pericardial mesothelioma). Linked to asbestos exposure, malignant mesothelioma is often fatal because it has not been diagnosed until advanced stages.
